NHSACA Executive Board September Monthly Newsletter

Scott Garvis C.M.A.A. NHSACA 1st Vice President

As we begin another school year, I want to take a moment to express my gratitude for the dedication and commitment each of you brings to shaping the lives of young athletes across the country. The impact you have is immeasurable, and the work you do resonates far beyond the field, court, or gymnasium.

In life, we all face challenges and adversity. There are moments when things seem overwhelming, when the obstacles in front of us appear insurmountable. Yet, it’s during these times that we are tested, and it’s how we respond that defines who we are as leaders and coaches.

The words of this timeless poem remind us of the power we hold in each moment:

I’ve only just a minute,
Only sixty seconds in it.
Forced upon me, can’t refuse it,
Didn’t seek it, didn’t choose it,
But it’s up to me to use it.
I must suffer if I lose it,
Give an account if I abuse it,
Just a tiny little minute,
But eternity is in it.

These words are a call to action. They remind us that every moment counts, every opportunity matters, and every challenge is an invitation to rise to the occasion. As coaches, we often find ourselves in the position of guiding our athletes through their own moments of adversity—reminding them that the outcome is shaped not by the size of the challenge but by the strength of their resolve.

The same is true for each of us. We may not always choose the circumstances we face, but we always have the choice in how we respond. Use these moments to inspire growth, foster resilience, and lead with purpose. The lessons you impart, the wisdom you share, and the perseverance you model will leave a lasting impact on your athletes—and on the world.

As you move forward into this school year, I encourage you to seize every moment with intention. Lead with heart, inspire with passion, and know that your influence is far-reaching. The work you do matters more than you may ever know.

Thank you for your unwavering commitment to excellence, and for the sacrifices you make every day for the betterment of your athletes and communities. Together, we are stronger, and together, we will continue to elevate the coaching profession and the lives we touch.

Wishing you all a year of success, growth, and fulfillment.

With gratitude and admiration,

Scott Garvis C.M.A.A.

Celebrating our Past & Enlightening our Future

As we look ahead to another exciting year for the National High School Athletic Coaches Association (NHSACA), I want to take a moment to share our goals, vision, and challenges for continued growth. Together, we have an incredible opportunity to strengthen our association, build lasting partnerships, and elevate the level of support we provide to high school coaches across the nation.

Goals and Vision for 2024

Our vision for this year focuses on empowering coaches to pursue excellence in their craft while fostering a culture of learning, collaboration, and innovation. We are committed to expanding our reach and influence through:

  1. Increased Membership Engagement: We encourage you to participate in our events, share your insights, and actively engage with fellow members. Your voice is vital to the growth of the NHSACA.
  2. Continued Professional Development: Join us for webinars, clinics, and educational courses designed to equip you with cutting-edge strategies. Check out our Coaches Webinar on September 18th by clicking here.
  3. Partnership and Sponsorship Growth: This year, we aim to develop more meaningful partnerships with organizations that share our passion for coaching excellence. Together, we can offer new resources and opportunities for our members.
  4. Recognizing Excellence: Through our Coach of the Year (COTY) and Hall of Fame programs, we will continue to honor the best in high school coaching. We encourage you to nominate deserving coaches and submit applications for these prestigious recognitions.

Challenges for Growth

While we’ve made great strides, there is always room for growth. Our challenge to you this year is to help spread the word about the NHSACA, recruit new members, and seek out potential sponsors who align with our mission. This will allow us to expand our programs, offer more resources, and support even more coaches across the country.

Upcoming Events

We are thrilled to announce that the 2025 NHSACA National Coaches Convention will be hosted by the South Dakota High School Coaches Association from June 21 to June 25, 2025, in Rapid City, South Dakota at the Ramkota Conference Center.

This convention will feature clinic sessions sports, college credit courses, and countless networking opportunities with coaches from across the country. Additionally, we will celebrate the NHSACA National Coaches Hall of Fame Ceremony and the NHSACA National Coach of the Year Ceremony to recognize the best of the best in our profession.
