NHSACA EXECUTIVE BOARD SEPTEMBER NEWSLETTER

by Bubba Davis 2nd Vice President
Greetings NHSACA Members:
Hopefully, everyone’s school year is off to a great start. Here in Mississippi,
school softball and volleyball are in full swing and football has played three
games. It’s hot and dry which is normal this time of the year.
The Executive Committee has been working diligently to ensure that our
association fills all vacant positions. The committee studied the by-law’s vacancy
guidelines and sought the advice of several experienced board members, ultimately
deciding that the practice would be to appoint a board member to fill the entire
remaining term of the second vice-president. The Executive Committee then
appointed Henry Johnson of Illinois to fill out the remaining years of this position.
Henry has graciously accepted this role, and we are excited about his contributions
to our committee.
We also have three Sports Chair positions to fill. The Executive committee
reviewed the applications and decided to appoint Chris Barnett of Mississippi as
the Boys’ Cross Country Sports Chair and Terry Sturgeon of South Dakota as the
Boys’ Track and Field Sports Chair.
We had already appointed Brian Collins of Connecticut as the Girls’ Cross
Country Chair and moved Tate Fischer from Special Sports Chair to Boys’
Assistant Sports Chair. We have also filled Forry’s position with longtime Sports
Chair, Greg Brown. Special Sports Chair is the only position remaining and we are
working on getting that filled.
We also have a change in venue for the 2026 National Convention because of price
negotiations. The Convention will now take place just outside of Iowa city in
Coralville, Iowa at the Hyatt Regency Coralville Hotel and Conference Center. It
will be a three day convention running from June 29 th to July 1 st . The first board
meeting will be on Monday morning, June 29th .
We are making progress on the 2027 Convention which we hope will be in
Mississippi. The process for seeking nominations for Coach of the Year and Hall
of Fame will begin by the 15 th of September.
A friend shared the following with me several years ago (author unknown). I hope
something in this might make your day better.
An Old Farmer’s Advice
Your fences need to be horse-high, pig-tight and bull-strong.
Keep skunks and bankers at a distance.
Life is simpler when you plow around the stump.
A bumble bee is considerably faster than a John Deere tractor.
Words that soak into your ears are whispered — not yelled.
Meanness don’t just happen overnight.
Forgive your enemies — it messes up their heads.
Do not corner something that you know is meaner than you.
It doesn’t take a very big person to carry a grudge.
You cannot unsay a cruel word.
Every path has a few puddles.
When you wallow with pigs, expect to get dirty.
The best sermons are lived, not preached.
Most of the stuff people worry about ain’t ever going to happen anyway.
Don’t judge folks by their relatives.
Remember that silence is sometimes the best answer.
Live a good, honorable life. Then, when you get older and think back, you’ll
enjoy it a second time.
Don’t interfere with something that ain’t bothering you.
Timing has a lot to do with the outcome of a rain dance.
If you find yourself in a hole, the first thing to do is stop diggin’.
Sometimes you get — and sometimes you get got.
The biggest troublemaker you’ll ever have to deal with watches you from
the mirror every mornin’.
Always drink upstream from the herd.
Good judgment comes from experience, and a lot of that comes from
bad judgment.
Lettin’ the cat out of the bag is a whole lot easier than puttin’ it back in.
If you get to thinkin’ you’re a person of some influence, try ordering
somebody else’s dog around.
Live simply. Love generously. Care deeply. Speak kindly.
